The family had been searching for a Mastiff-mix puppy at the various northern California rescues for a few months. One day a picture of her litter popped up from a rescue in Grass Valley.
“They are going fast,” one of the employees warned us. “First come, first serve.” They dropped everything and high tailed it out. Bella won their hearts immediately. The whole trip home, Mom sat in the back of the car with her, trying her best to comfort as she acclimated to her new situation.
From the moment she was home, she stayed close by their sides, and that’s where she was always happiest. She LOVED human contact. When her human brother arrived 9 months later, he quickly became one of her favorite new people, especially when he got old enough to drop treats on the floor. The same held true for her human sister who came when Bella was two.
Bella had a way of bonding with people that the family never witnessed in a dog before. She would look at you with her deep brown eyes, like she was looking deep into your soul.
When she finally had to go, there were no words for the profound sadness. Who was going to lie at their sides when they got sick? Who was going to greet them with adoration no matter what the day wrought? She was the sweetest girl. They miss her every day.
